Oh Canada! Arm and Hammer Celebrates Canada’s 150th #ChurchandDwight

Ever since I was a little girl there has always been a box of Arm & Hammer™ Baking Soda in my house. There was one in my grandmother’s house as well and if memory serves me well it was even in my great grandmother’s house. Arm & Hammer™ Baking Soda  is something that gets used every day in my house. From cleaning and cooking we use it every day.

I’m sure you’re all familiar with that little orange box in your fridge, freezer or baking cupboard. Arm & Hammer™ Baking Soda has been helping generations of Canadian families cook and clean for decades.

Over the years, the team at Arm & Hammer – with the help of their loyal fans – have come up with more than 100 uses for baking soda and I’m sharing some of my favourites here.

·         Baby, baby, baby.  Baking soda is an all-natural cleaning product that’s gentle enough for even the tiniest baby clothes, yet effective enough for big baby odours. It can be used to treat spills on carpets, clean equipment and toys, deodorize baby bottles and diaper pails as well as freshen stuffed animals to give them a new life.

·         Have you tried it in the bathroom? It helps remove the dirt and grime from bathroom tiles or no-wax floors quickly and easily. It’s also effective at cleaning shower curtains, deodorizing drains and wastebaskets, surface-safe cleaning and for septic system care.

·         Not just for cooking in the kitchen. Yes, Arm & Hammer Baking Soda is a staple baking ingredient as it causes dough or batter to rise, becoming light and porous when heated, but it can also be used in the kitchen to clean lunch boxes, microwave ovens, dishes, pots and pans, recyclables, drains and garbage disposals. Did I mention it removes odours from plastic containers, polishes silver, freshens sponges and stinky sinks, refreshes tea pots, cups and mugs and works great as a fruit and vegetable scrub? It’s also a common deodorizer for fridges and freezers. Changing the box regularly (every 30 days is recommended) helps ensure optimal odour elimination.

·         Don’t fret about your floors. It helps remove unsightly scuff marks without unwanted scratch marks from tile and no-wax floors. It’s also great at neutralizing common household odours and freshens stale-smelling air in your home.

·         Tackles the greasiest of garages. Arm & Hammer Baking Soda safely cleans your car lights, chrome, windows, tires, vinyl seats and floor mats without you having to worry about unwanted scratch marks. It’s also a great deodorizer for car interiors and camper water tanks and tackles oil and grease stains on your garage floor or driveway.

·         Smelly gear no more. Use Arm & Hammer baking soda to clean and deodorize smelly sports equipment like hockey or camping gear, as well as gym bags.

·         Don’t forget to take it outside. It is a must-have for your next camping trip! It’s a dish and pot scrubber, hand cleanser and deodorant, just to name a few. It also cleans your plastic and vinyl pool toys as well as lawn furniture when it’s time to bring them out for the summer and works wonders on barbecue grills.

And that’s not all!

Because of the gentle and all natural formula of Arm & Hammer™ Baking Soda, it’s a popular personal hygiene product for many. It can be used as a body and facial scrub, hand cleanser and a refreshing bath soak. It also helps to fight bad breath and body odour and is great for washing hair.

For a full list of these 100 uses of Arm & Hammer Baking Soda and usage instructions, visit www.armandhammer.ca. You’ll find them under the ‘Solutions’ tab.

Celebrating the Holidays with Hallmark with a #Giveaway #LoveHallmarkCA

Tis the season of decorating, card sending, tree decorating, baking and celebrating the holidays with family, friends, and Hallmark. Hallmark has been a part of my life, especially for the holidays since I was born. There have always been Hallmark cards and gifts each and every year. I am thankful to be a Hallmark ambassador and love the boxes they send out each year. This year whether you are celebrating a December birthday like me, Christmas, Hannukkah or New Years, you can find the perfect card, gift, gift wrap or decor with Hallmark.

peanuts_holiday_book_and_snowman_blanket

This year’s Hallmark box, was filled with things both Rachel and I loved. Rachel gravitated to the snowman blanket and the Peanuts Holiday book. Both would make great gifts.

Do you still send out Christmas cards to family and friends? Hallmark has a wonderful selection of cards including those from Dove decorated Hannukah cards, Wonder-Folds White Christmas Tree cards, Home and Native Land Canadian Exclusive boxed cards and Signature boxed cards.

hallmark-ornaments

Have you finished decorating your tree yet? Ours seems to be a work in progress every year. This year there are some beautiful Hallmark ornaments. Some of my favorites include the Red Poinsettia Glass Ball, the Itty Bitty Star Wars: The Force Awakens BB-8, the Scottie Dog Ornament, the Coffee Signature ornament, and the Itty Bitty Elsa ornament.

My almost 19 year old spotted the Cheers Bottle Bag and thought that would be perfect for a bottle for her birthday. I laughed out loud!! They also included a couple of other gift bags.

I then showed her the Not on the Naughty list Toe-of-a -Kind socks and told her she is on the naughty list.

Back to School With Skechers (Giveaway)

sckechersI know that we are right in the midst of summer, but in less than a month the kids will be headed back to school. As both my teen and I will be taking courses this fall, we are both starting to get in the mind space where we think about what we need. This fall we are lucky we will be heading back to school with Skechers on our feet.

I am hard to fit when it comes to shoes. I have a wide foot. I was delighted last fall when I found the most comfortable pair of Skechers last fall. I have worn them almost every day for months. They are a spend that is worth the money. Sometimes it is okay to spend money on things that do matter like your feet. If you are travelling back and forth to school or even work, you want to be comfortable.

IMG_20160811_111057

Last month, we went to Skechers.com and checked out all the great footwear options. My teen is very picky, but she oohed and awed over the selection in front of her. I did the same. As I said, I have a wider foot, so the first thing I checked was the selection. They have over 50 pairs of shoes that will fit a wider foot. How cool is that! For me, that was a huge plus! It gave me lots of options.

IMG_20160811_111338

I settled on a great pair of SKECHERS Relaxed Fit®: Bikers –  it is a Cruisin shoe. I love that it gives me a casual professional look and has that great memory foam insole. If your shoes do not have a memory foam insole, trust me it is something you want to try! It helps that they just look great as well!

IMG_20160811_111354

My teen decided she wanted the navy/pink Skechers GO STEPs. These shoes will be great for her as they feature Goga Mat Technology and Goga Pillars on the midsole and outsole which means she gets the correct arch support and shock absorption. With these shoes as well my daughter who loves to go sockless can! These shoes also feature the Integrated Ortholite® anti-microbial sock liner which helps inhibit odor and prevent slippage. These shoes are also very lightweight which my teen loves. I can see her wearing them all year.

Now here is some great news for my readers: You can win two pairs of Skechers just in time for back to school.

All  you have to do is leave a comment and let me know which shoes you would pick for those going back to school in your house.

You can check out the selection of shoes on their website.

*this giveaway closes August 31st, 2016 at 12 pm and is open to Canadian residents only.

*you can earn an extra entry by sharing this giveaway, just leave me a link to where you shared in the comments.

Road Trippin’ Around Canada this Summer and a Giveaway #ChurchandDwight

save on your road trip

July is the perfect time to take a family road trip, last week we took off for St Jacobs Market and Statford for the day. For us, school is not out – school’s in! My teen is busy studying science this summer at summer school as she prepares to take some advanced science courses in the year ahead. So instead of it being a family road trip. I roadtripped with my girlfriend Tammy and her family. With it being summer there are so many possibilities when it comes to road tripping. You could do like we did and just take a short jaunt or your could do like I did last summer and drive all the way to the coast.

Not sure where you want to go? Here are three great adventures to get your mind wandering and maybe inspire your next trip: Quebec City, Haliburton and Tofino. Not sure what each has to offer? Read more below!

1.       Tofino, British Columbia. Looking for something truly picturesque? Head to Canada’s surf capital – Tofino. Get your family on a ferry from Vancouver to Nanaimo and drive along the Pacific Rim Highway for a truly breathtaking view of mountains and lakes, along with rainforest. The area is also known for its trees, which grow in spectacular sizes. Some trees are believed to be 1000 years old.

2.       Haliburton, Ontario. Truly the quintessential summer escape from the big city, you’ll practically feel the stress lifting as you start driving into cottage country. There are several scenic route options, dotted with great ice cream parlours along the way, which all lead to good times ahead. Whether you stay for the day or rent a cottage, you’ll want to make sure you stop at Webers in Orillia, a Canadian burger landmark since 1963.

3.       Quebec City, Quebec. Whatever direction you’re coming in from, stop in a few francophone villages on your way into the old city to soak up the culture, food and French! Making your way through the beautiful and lush countryside, you’ll be thrilled to arrive at your final destination: old Quebec City, a city full of history, architecture, cobble stone streets and endless charm.

Before you head out on a great adventure, make sure you’re well prepared, especially when kids are involved – we’re hoping for less “are we there yet?” and more “wow, this is amazing!” You’ll always want to pack things like a GPS system, snacks, sunscreen, and sun protection, first aid supplies and good music! Personally, when it comes to music I am loving my Spotify app!

To get you ready for your family adventure this summer, here are some very practical products to put in your travel toolkit. We’re sending along product samples to get you started and also have a giveaway for your readers.

This year several of the gifts on my wish list and several of my daughter’s are available at BestBuy Canada. BestBuy has a great collection of gifts for every budget. So what would we suggest and what is on our lists?

Well for the mom like me, one who is working on their health.

Bellabeat LEAF Fitness Tracker - Rose Gold

There is the BellaBeat Leaf Fitness tracker. I love this health tracker that monitors my activity, sleep, breathing and menstrual cycle. It also offers advice on how I can improve my day. I love that it can be worn as a bracelet, pin or necklace. I love Rose Gold so picked it in rose gold and Santa’s elf has told me this may be under my tree.

Vitamix Professional Stand Blender

Then I think every mom would love a Vitamix Professional Stand Blender. It has been on my dream list for awhile now.

Govino 16oz. Shatterproof Wine Glass Set

Now after a good workout and a good meal I just might want a great glass of wine and what better to serve them in than this Govino 16 oz shatter proof wine glasses.

Star Wars Darth Vader Toaster - With Bread

Just because I grew up with Star Wars and am a huge fan, my daughter thought this Star Wars Darth Vader toaster ought to be mine.

Now for the teen who has almost everything:

WowWee Miposaur Robotic Dinosaur

She loves the WowWee Miposuar Robotic Dinosaur. It’s the perfect companion for gadget enthusiasts. Use hand gestures or app via iOS or Android device to train, tame, play and even battle. Miposaur is smart enough to obey your commands or mischievous enough not too.

CDP-200R_S_PLY, 08.2.18, 6:40 PM, 8C, 5542x3600 (267+2325), 100%, straight 6 sto, 1/10 s, R72.4, G57.6, B86.8

She also loved the Casio Keyboard. She has wanted a keyboard for awhile now.

Squier Pack Deluxe Acoustic Guitar

Since her aunt plays the guitar she was also eyeing this guitar. The Squier Pack Deluxe Acoustic Guitar is perfect for that budding guitarist.

Now, since this can’t be all about us and what we love. We wanted to recommend a few toys that we have seen and loved this year.

sphero bb-8

The Sphero BB-8 App-Enabled Droid. This BB-8 will interact with you and even responds to voice commands. Perfect for ages 8 and up.

We saw the Air Hogs Star Wars RC Ultimate Millennium Falcon when it was released this past summer and fell it love with it that day. It’s powered by four quad propellers concealed in the ducts of the ship. You can control your ship from up to 250 ft away making for lots of fun.

10379988

When my daughter was younger, she learned to read with the help of her Leap Pad. Well, these days there is a new LeapFrog LeapPad Platinum learning tablet equipped with ten different apps and 6 LeapFrog imaicard digital games sure to keep little ones entertained and learning.

Disney Frozen karoke machine

Have children that love “Frozen”? Well, the Disney Frozen Karaoke Machine might have your little ones singing away to their favorite tunes from the Disney hit movie.

There are so many great gifts that can be found at BestBuy for every budget. For most of my choices, I stayed under $200.00 for a reason. First of all, most of us have budgets right, but there was another reason. Thanks to my friends at BestBuy Canada I get to give one of my Canadian readers a $200.00 gift card to BestBuy just in time for Christmas.

M is for Money Review and Giveaway #MisforMoney

M-is-for-MoneyAs someone who talks about teaching kids money at least a few times a year online, I was excited when asked to review the M is for Money book series aimed at Canadian kids aged 5 to 9.

The series is written by Teresa Cascioli, who is a very successful businesswoman. She took Lakeport Brewing from the brink of bankruptcy and turned it into a $201 million business. That is say something about her knowledge of business but will that translate to a kids book writer?

I was told the books were aimed at children 5-9 years of age, so I passed the books on to my neighbours for their take on the books. They have 4 kids age 4 to 10 so the perfect household to help me review the books.

The series has 3 books, and follows the adventures of twins Tessa and Benji as they learn about Canadian currency, budgeting, visiting a bank, saving, taking out a loan and more. The twins even run a lemonade stand in book two, which gets kids thinking about business. That is a good thing in my books.

Most kids are spenders, I know my daughter was till I really started teaching her about money concepts. I think the books are a great way to introduce kids to basic concepts and from reading them through they will be easy for most kids. As for reading, they are written more at a grade 2 and above level but make for a great book to read together so you can discuss the money concepts. I always think when it comes to money mom and dad talking it and showing it in daily actions makes for a great saver some day.

November is Financial Literacy Month in Canada soI would encourage you to download the series atwww.misformoney.ca or buy it at Chapters/Indigo across Canada. Let it spark some great money conversations at your house.

Giveaway

Now, Teresa Cascioli is allowing me to gift a reader of my blog with a copy of the series of books for your home. simply fill out the rafflecopter below and let me know in the comments what do you want to teach your kids about money.
