Spring is finally here and there are signs of better days ahead. Here at our house we are busy getting ready for Easter this weekend. In our house Easter is an important celebration. We are celebrating the life, death and resurrection of Jesus! While church and contemplation are part of the long weekend there is also the visit from the Easter bunny and an Easter egg hunt.
Do you know where the tradition of the Easter bunny began and how it ties into the Easter story? The legend of the Easter Bunny bringing eggs appears to have been brought to the United States by settlers from southwestern Germany. The German tradition of the Easter Bunny or “Oschter Haws” or Easter Hare migrated to America in the 1800s, likely accompanying German immigrants, many of whom settled in Pennsylvania. Over the past 200 years, the Easter Bunny has become the most commercially recognized symbol of Easter.
In legend, the Easter Bunny, brings baskets filled with colored eggs, candy, and sometimes toys to the homes of children on the night before Easter. The Easter Bunny will either put the baskets in a designated place or hide them somewhere in the house or garden for the children to find when they wake up in the morning, giving rise to the tradition of the Easter egg hunt. In our house gifts received where a new outfit for church, a card, a chocolate bunny and easter eggs. Now days there are lots of ways to celebrate Easter.
Hallmark Canada likes to celebrate with bright colors, bunnies and great cards. A couple of weeks ago they sent me a box filled with Easter goodies to help celebrate the season.
I loved the Spring Decor ornament tree and it is sitting on my kitchen table all decked out in ornaments. I love that the ornaments you can get at Hallmark include a cross as well as the symbols of spring and celebrations of family.
With my neighbours having little wee ones the Disney Easter Itty Bittys and Felt Basket are headed upstairs. You can collect all 4 Winnie the Pooh characters making them perfect for the little ones.
I love butterflies so when I got a beautiful embossed ceramic mug in my box I was super excited and can’t wait to have my morning tea in it, Easter morning.
Having a teen in the house means a Tuck- a Bellies Plus Gift Presenter is perfect for sticking in a Starbucks gift card. It comes in a duck, bunny or Hedgehog.
From reusable totes, to cards, to paper, Hallmark always has great items for your home or for you to gift this season. They definitely are my go to store each holiday season.
