Coupons in Canada: Where and How to Save

canadian coupons

Last year I wrote the post Extreme Couponing here in Canada, and well not much has changed on the Canadian market but I wanted to add to the list of places of where you can find coupons in Canada that can help you save.

Here in Canada we will likely never have the opportunities for savings like they do in the US. Simple fact is that we do not have the same retail marketplace. Here in Canada there is much less competition, and that is the reason it is harder to save. Note I said harder but not impossible to save with coupons in Canada.

So the list:

Where can you gather them from in Canada?

1. Newspaper inserts. With these I ask my neighbours who don’t coupon to save me theirs as well I go to my local corner store the day after and ask for the inserts. These inserts come out once every six weeks.

2. Check online resources. There are several websites that offer great coupons. They then mail the coupons to you. These are my 3 favourite sources for Canadian coupons:

3. Sign up for alerts with GroceryAlerts.ca a site that lets you know when new coupons are available.

4.  Participate in forums on Frugal Shopper.ca, RedFlagDeals.com and SmartCanucks.ca. By participating in these forums I have access to the latest information shared by great couponers. I have also been able to trade coupons and even participate in coupon trains. Coupon trains allow you to share and trade coupons with other Canadians.

5. You can sign up for email or write directly from companies as well. Also sometimes you can get high value coupons by simply writing the companies you love. Most have a contact us page, try you using it.

6. Facebook Fan Pages. Many brands are now offering coupons directly to their fans on Facebook. This week alone I scored 3 coupons simply by liking a brand on facebook. Besides Facebook you may want to follow your favourite brands on Twitter and Facebook.

7. One of my favorite bloggers A Busy Mommy just started a great weekly round up of where to get coupons in Canada. I love this and I know I will be checking in with her weekly to make sure there are none I am missing.

Now that you have your coupons it is time to discuss how to use them:

How to save with coupons in Canada

1. Use your weekly flyers to figure out what you want to buy that is on sale. Now days you can also get all your flyers on your smartphone with apps like Flipp around.

2. Match your coupons to what is on sale. Get to know there are sale cycles.

3. Compile your your shopping list and place coupons in an order so they are ready to use.

4. Check your store couponing policy. Different stores have different rules. Know yours. London Drugs and Target are the only Canadian store that allows stacking. Stacking means they will accept more then one type of coupon for a product as long as they come from different media source ( ie. newspaper, inserts, online, etc. ).

5. Never forget about price matching. If you don’t want to run to 4 different stores there are several that will allow you to save on the item if you show them the cheaper price advertised.

CouponCodes.ca- Helping Canadians find Deals and Discounts

CouponCodesI love the finding of a great deal, or a discount so when I got asked by CouponCodes.ca to review their site, I thought what a perfect way to get the word out about a site that truly does help Canadians find discounts and deals.

I have always been one who loves coupons and saving money. I have written about this on my blog month after month. Who doesn’t like to save a few dollars?

These days we have often gone from clipping newspaper inserts, and shopping in store, to comparing and looking for the best discounts and deals online. I loved that there were over 20,000 current deals on the site, in a very easy to navigate style, from what is hot, to what is expiring, and you can even search by category.

Recently I was looking for a free shipping code as I was buying online and the first thing I did was look for a free shipping code. When you are shopping online do you stop to take a look online for a free shipping code? Really often you can find one.

Two things I often buy online are Christmas gifts and books. For me these 2 things are no brainers to buy online. Last year I found great codes when going shopping.

In fact I would take the time to shop for anything online, often you can find a great deal.

Know someone having a baby, why not take a look at Amazon, they even have a great discount right now on baby items.

You can even find the big items like outdoor play equipment at Sears.

Now tell we when you have shopped online have you looked for codes? discounts? coupons?

What do you buy online? Let me know.

Baby and You Helping Parents Connect and Save

Baby and You is a fairly new  program developed by Loblaws, Superstore, Zehrs, Independent Grocers, Valu-Mart and SaveEasy. It offers community and savings through its Facebook commuunity. The Facebook page is a great place to meet other parents who might be in a similair situation as you. You can share your pictures, get advice and save all in one spot.

They have 2 wonderful feature bloggers Jody from Mommy Moment, who keeps the conversation going about everything mom, and Lisa from Growing Your Baby, focusing on all things baby. When I visited the page people were talking about girfriends, diapers, and even nursery decorating. Lots of places the coversation could go.

They also offer a great way for you to save with exculsive coupons and a link to the weekly flyer. Lets just say you want to be a PC Insider if you have little ones and like to save. I know for me as someone who shops to feed little mouths now I am watching for those coupons.

So if you are the parent of a child why not visit this great community, hope in on the conversations and save at the same time.

*“Disclosure – I am participating in the Baby and You program by Mom Central Canada on behalf of Loblaw Companies. I received compensation as a thank you for my participation. The opinions on this blog are my own.”

Works for Me: Holiday Shopping

Here is my house we have just finished the first of two Muslim celebrations..The first Eid follows our month of fasting and the second one in in Novemeber. Like any holiday and we have enough of them coming up (Christmas, Thanksgiving, Hannukah etc.) we all have to shop. Now me being the frugal mom I am I often shop online. I have found some great deals by doing some comparison shopping online.

Now I wanted to introduce you to a site that I use. I use Offers.com, offers alot of great help when trying to find a great deal.

Basically u can find great coupons you can use, online discounts and some pretty good offers. I love the free offers on there too! You might want to consider it if you are going to shop online this holiday season. I know I will be and that is what is working here in this house this week. Now I am off to We are That Family to see what is working in your house.
