How to Celebrate Easter with a Preschooler

My niece Jaslyn is joining me here at Common Cents Mom. This first blog post is all about how to celebrate Easter with a little one.

My name is Jaslyn I’m a mother of one boy that is almost 4, with Easter around the corner, we love Easter Colours we are creative in the kitchen with tasty treats and we have plenty of fun with creative recipes for little hands.

Time in the Kitchen

Having fun in the kitchen with little ones can be very easy. I put the recipe together and Xavier mixes and enjoys licking off the beaters while I get the cookies prepped to go in the oven when they are done and cooled I prep the icing and the sprinkles I get Xavier to do everything thing else. We often use a box mix. Yes, mixes are great to use when we are busy! We often use Betty Crocker mixes and well if you are industrious you may just want to check out this Peep recipe that is perfect for Easter.

Craft Time

We love arts and crafts. My preschooler, he loves decorating, I wanted to have the option to decorate eggs without having huge mess I purchased silicone eggs had we painted 12 eggs ( only $2 at the dollar store) he used his own imagination on the colours and design, I put 4 colours on a sheet of newspaper so he could mix the colours together or do whatever he wanted with them. This was so simple and no egg dying kits and no purchased art kit so it was great on the budget.

Easter Morning Traditions

Our tradition on Easter morning, include empty baskets on the table the night before so when we wake up the Easter bunny had filled them with presents and left a trail of eggs through the house. Xavier will try to make sure he has all the eggs, while my husband and I prep for breakfast. Xavier is either eating a couple of the Easter eggs or playing with his gifts. Later in the day, we will go to my husbands’ aunts. They have an outdoor egg hunt for all the kids and equal everything out at the end, while the kids are out playing or hunting for eggs the adults are prepping delicious Easter Dinner.

How do you celebrate Easter at your house?

Hallmark Easter Must Haves #loveHallmarkCA

Spring is finally here and there are signs of better days ahead. Here at our house we are busy getting ready for Easter this weekend. In our house Easter is an important celebration. We are celebrating the life, death and resurrection of Jesus! While church and contemplation are part of the long weekend there is also the visit from the Easter bunny and an Easter egg hunt.

Do you know where the tradition of the Easter bunny began and how it ties into the Easter story? The legend of the Easter Bunny bringing eggs appears to have been brought to the United States by settlers from southwestern Germany. The German tradition of the Easter Bunny or “Oschter Haws” or Easter Hare migrated to America in the 1800s, likely accompanying German immigrants, many of whom settled in Pennsylvania. Over the past 200 years, the Easter Bunny has become the most commercially recognized symbol of Easter.

In legend, the Easter Bunny, brings baskets filled with colored eggs, candy, and sometimes toys to the homes of children on the night before Easter. The Easter Bunny will either put the baskets in a designated place or hide them somewhere in the house or garden for the children to find when they wake up in the morning, giving rise to the tradition of the Easter egg hunt. In our house gifts received where a new outfit for church, a card, a chocolate bunny and easter eggs. Now days there are lots of ways to celebrate Easter.

Hallmark Canada likes to celebrate with bright colors, bunnies and great cards. A couple of weeks ago they sent me a box filled with Easter goodies to help celebrate the season.

Kinder Eggs and Easter Traditions in Our House

Kinder Easter Basket
Kinder Easter Basket Minus the MinI Eggs!

Hard to believe that Easter is around the corner with snow on the ground and it still below 0 here in Toronto today, but it is around the corner and one of the perks of being a Kindermom was this beautiful basket sent by Kinder Canada. It arrived while my daughter was home so there was no hiding it. She even as a teen loves her Kinder as you can tell by the photo. Notice the missing mini eggs? They have been devoured and if you look closely see the big egg well it has been opened so she could find out what the toy was and well the Frog had her jumping because she loves frogs. Now enough of how my teen still devours Kinder when it comes in the house.

I wanted ask you what are some of your Easter traditions?

For us growing up we had certain Easter rituals. There was always a new dress and well church was mandatory no matter what you said you believed in that moment. There was always the Easter egg hunt, and dinner was always the very best ham and pineapple and scalloped potatoes and seeing on the table was always a bowl of beautifully decorated Ukrainian Easter eggs.

Today we still do the traditional egg hunt in the park that is across the street, we still get the new outfit but the menu has changed a bit but the dessert has remained the same lemon pie and carrot cake. As for egg decorating well it is always a must do, usually done Good Friday afternoon in our house. So what Easter traditions or rituals do you have in your house?

Now as a Kinder Mom I did want to also let you know about a couple of very special things first if you have not liked the  Kinder® Canada Facebook page you need to do so like now. Why? Because sharing is caring. KINDER® Canada, who will be donating $1 to Children’s Miracle Network of Canada for every new friend of their Facebook Page from March 1st to 31st, up to $25,000. Isn’t that a great reason!

As well Harry, the lovable mascot of KINDER® Canada maybe coming to a city near you. He will be making appearances at family events in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary & Vancouver this March to celebrate Easter and spread the joy with FREE samples of Kinder® Mini eggs. Stay up to date on where Harry will be by checking the Kinder® Canada Facebook page. Another reason to like the page!

Now Kinder will be apart of our Easter because well that too is a tradition. Now do tell me what are the traditions in your house?

A Review of HOP

Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend a great preview of the new movie out April 1st HOP.

First I want to thank Klout Perks for the chance to attend with my daughter. Both of us had a good time and laughed at many of the antics of EB ( voiced by Russel Brand) and Fred (James Mardsen).

HOP is a cute kids movie that blends animation and action. HOP tell the story of EB ( the son of the Easter bunny) and Fred ( an out of work slacker).

EB has a dream. He runs away from Easter Island the night before he is to take the reigns of Easter. He wants to be a drummer.

He ends up in Hollywood where Fred hits him with his car. Fred ends up taking in EB.

As both try and follow their dreams all sorts of trouble happens. Both EB and Fred had lessons to learn.

Meanwhile back on Easter Island, EB ‘s dad, the Easter bunny is facing off against a number 2 ( a chick with a major attitude) who thinks he should have the job of running Easter.

By the end EB and Fred have both learned lessons and Easter gets saved.

Rachel and I both laughed at many of the antics after all what bunny poops jelly beans. I will never look at a jelly bean the same way again. If you have a free afternoon and little ones this spring you might want to spend an afternoon watching this cute flick.

Thanks again Klout Perks for the preview and thanks Universal for the silly bands- my daughter loves them.

*I was given a free product or sample because I’m a Klout influencer. I was under no obligation to receive the sample or talk about this company. I get no additional benefits for talking about the product or company.
